"College football requires ability, stamina, motivation
and dedication. The loss of any one of these traits will
result in a mediocre athlete," Clemens said. During
his time at Georgia, Clemens demonstrated that he indeed had
each of these qualities. Clemens not only earned a first
string position as a freshman, but he went on to become the leader
in yards gained and touchdowns scored for his sophomore and junior
years. He was also elected alternate Captain his senior
year and made the 1954 All SEC Scholastic Football team.
Clemens graduated from UGA in 1955 with a B.S. of Agriculture
and then went into the United States Air Force and retired as
a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years. Clemens then went
on to get his MBA in 1978 and during this time decided to open
his business, Automobile Consumer Service Corporation, because
of an interest in sales and service.
Automobile Consumer Service Corporation designs, markets and
services vehicle extended service contracts. It has been
open since 1977 and operates in 30 states and Canada.
Clemens used what he had learned in football to be successful
as a business owner. "In business, success breeds
success. Thus to be a leader in business, one must also
possess the ability, stamina, motivation and dedication that
is necessary in sports," Clemens said.
"My two careers, football and the military, before opening
a business afforded me the experience to observe the right and
wrong way to optimize the employee’s capabilities, and to
recognize that hard work and attention to detail are required in
sports as well as in successful businesses," Clemens continued. |
