As a running back, wide receiver, punt returner and kickoff returner for the University of South Carolina football team from 1999 to 2002, Brewer was named an All-SEC Candidate, 2001Outback Bowl Most Valuable Player and 2002 Team Captain for the Gamecocks. He played pre-season football with the Baltimore Ravens and then spent one year in the NFL Europe. Brewer spent the first half of that season with the Rhine Fire, and was then traded to the 2004 World Bowl Champion Berlin Thunder.

Brewer continued to use his football knowledge and experience as a teacher and coach at private high school and as an instructor at football and speed, strength and agility camps. He opened Ryan Brewer Enterprises in Columbia, S.C., when he got the opportunity to open a business to distribute for his grandfather's manufacturing company. The new company, which began doing business Jan. 1, 2005, serves South Carolina and surrounding states as a fence, column and railing systems distributor. It is also a representative for Miami Valley Steel Service, Engineered Sportfield Solutions and Francis Manufacturing.

As a former athlete now running a small business, Brewer says the competitive drive is not something he left on the playing field.

"It is always competitive out there," said Brewer. "I hate to lose, and I motivate myself every day to be the best."
