FAQs About the FirstBank Financial Services Closure

What will happen to my FirstBank branch and my account?

As of February 6, 2009, Regions Bank has assumed branch operations for FirstBank and taken ownership of its deposit accounts. Regions will operate this branch during a transition period as we work to convert your deposit accounts to Regions. During the transition, this branch will remain open during normal business hours to conduct transactions and assist with any questions you may have. The terms of your deposit accounts will remain the same at this time. You will receive additional communications from Regions, including new account terms, when your accounts are converted to the Regions systems.

Will I be able to access the funds in my account?

As of Monday, February 9, 2009, you will have full access to your deposits through the former FirstBank branches during normal business hours.

Are my accounts still federally insured?

Yes, your Regions deposit accounts, previously with FirstBank, remain insured to FDIC limits.

How do I verify my accounts are insured, and the extent of my coverage?
  • The FDIC has created a tool for customers of recently failed banks to determine whether their accounts were fully insured. The address is www2.fdic.gov/dip/index.asp.
  • The FDIC Web site also has extensive information about deposit insurance, including a deposit insurance estimator. The address is www.fdic.gov.
  • The FDIC has set up a toll-free number to assist with questions about insurance on your deposits. The number is 888-206-4662.

Can I continue to use my FirstBank checks and ATM/debit card?
Yes, you can continue to use your current checks and ATM/debit card until further notice.

Can I use Regions Bank branches?
Not at this time. The Regions Bank and FirstBank systems remain separate, so please continue to conduct in-branch business at your usual branch during the transition period. For your convenience, you can now use any of the more than 2,300 Regions ATMs in 16 states with no service charge.

Do I need to make changes to my direct deposit, automatic transfers/debits or loan payments?
At this time, you do not need to make any changes to direct deposit instructions, pre-approved transfers or debits to or from your account, or loan payments. Please continue to make loan payments payable to FirstBank and mail them to the same address until notified otherwise.

How do I know my deposits are safe with Regions?
Regions is one of the nations’ largest and most viable financial institutions, with a long history of stability. Our founding banks were established as far back as 1856, and today we have $146 billion in assets across our 16-state service area. We remain a strong company and are well capitalized based on regulatory standards.
