On Oct. 21, 2006, a hidden explosive in Ramadi, Iraq, destroyed Sgt. Greg Edwards' legs, severely injured his left hand and ended his career in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Just a few years later, Edwards stands proudly again, enjoying the solace of his new home in Mobile, Alabama. Like his incredibly advanced prosthetic legs, the fully accessible home was designed just for Edwards and donated to him in thanks for his service.

As construction was nearing completion, dozens of local Regions associates came out to help landscape the property and get it in tiptop shape for Edwards' family. This tremendously rewarding effort was one of many projects that benefited from Regions' What a Difference a Day Makes program, which offers every associate the opportunity to spend a paid workday volunteering in the community.

"I think it's incredible that all those people gave their time to come out and help," Edwards says. The group behind this compassionate project is Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit that has connected severely wounded veterans across the nation with free, accessible housing.

"They're doing something that's just wonderful, helping guys like me and our families when we come back," Edwards says. "It takes a big burden off of us."
