Long Term Financial Goals Checklist

What can college football teach you about setting and achieving long-term financial goals? Plenty!

Take these pages from the coach’s playbook to move toward the end zone:

• Create a game plan: Draw up a budget that will let you save enough each month to reach your savings goal before the clock runs out.
• Plan for blitzes: Establish an emergency fund to guard against emergency expenses that might set you back.
• Vary your pass and run game: Don’t create a savings plan that’s so rigid or restrictive that it ends up costing you money in other ways. Be ready to make your move when you see an investment opportunity.
• Remember it’s a team sport: Spouses who manage their finances together are more likely to meet their savings goals. So get your family off the bench!
• Play your field position: Re-balance your portfolio as you get closer to your financial goals.
