Did you know that you can change your benefit elections during the year if you experience a qualifying life event? A “Change in Status” is a special enrollment period the IRS allows so that you can adjust your benefits when these qualifying life events occur. Regions follows IRS guidelines regarding Change in Status events.

What are the different qualifying events that will allow me to make changes to my benefits?

  • Marriage
  • Birth, placement for adoption or adoption of a child
  • Divorce, legal separation or annulment
  • Gain or loss of coverage for you/your spouse/domestic partner/dependent child
  • Death of a dependent
  • Gain or loss of eligibility of a dependent

What are the benefits I can change for each event?

See the Change in Status Chart for a list of benefit changes you can make for each event.

How do I make changes to my benefit elections?

To request changes to your benefits due to a qualifying event, you must submit a Change in Status request via Workday. Additionally, you must submit the supporting documentation validating the event within 31 days of the event occurring. If your event is a gain or loss of Medicare or state-provided medical coverage you have 60 days to submit your Change in Status request and supporting documentation. If you are within the 31- to 60-day range you must call the HR Connect Team at 1-877-562-8383 to request your Change in Status for Medicare or state-provided coverage.

If you do not submit your Change in Status within 31 days of the qualifying event (60 days for gain/loss of Medicare or state-provided coverage), you will not be permitted to make changes to your benefits until the next open enrollment period. See additional information regarding change in status government regulations.

Important Information Before Submitting Your Request

  • A Change in Status request must be submitted within 31 days after the date of your qualifying event
