Military Leave

Your Benefits

Regions supports associates performing military service, and prohibits discrimination and retaliation against any associate on the basis of belonging in, having served in or applying to join a uniformed service.

Regions will comply with the requirements of federal, state and local laws when leave is required to fulfill a military obligation. Any benefits granted in addition to those required by law may be modified or terminated at any time.

You may be eligible for up to five years of cumulative military leave for service in the military. The five-year period may be extended under certain circumstances, and there are a number of types of service that do not count toward the five-year limit.

If you will be on a military leave for more than 10 consecutive business days, you should notify the Leave of Absence department.

Giving Notice of Military Leave

If you are called to active duty with any branch of the Armed Forces or National Guard, you should notify your manager as soon as possible upon receipt or anticipated receipt of military orders. A copy of the orders should be provided to your manager and the Leave of Absence team.

Pay During Military Leave

If you are on military leave, you may be eligible to receive differential pay from Regions. You will not be entitled to receive differential pay if the military leave results from the following:

  • Initial training period
  • Annual training program
  • Weekend training programs
  • Additional training to maintain or improve skills
  • A call to active duty for an emergency, natural disaster or civil disturbance
  • A call to active duty for less than 30 days
  • Leave that exceeds five years with respect to your employment at Regions, even if some of the leave is not subject to the five-year time limitation.

For other types of military leave, Regions will pay you the difference between your Regions rate of pay and military base pay if your Regions rate of pay is higher. Your Regions rate of pay is calculated using your base pay in a regular workweek without including incentives, overtime or paid time off. A military pay voucher or other official document must be presented before leaving for active duty to initiate this differential pay. Applicable payroll taxes (i.e. federal, state) will be withheld from differential pay.

If you are not entitled to differential pay during Military Leave, you will still be granted unpaid leave for military service. You have the option to use vacation and bonus days (i.e. Evergreen, United Way) while on Military Leave, but this is not a requirement. If you elect not to use vacation or bonus days, your pay will be docked for absences, as allowed by applicable laws.

You will not receive holiday pay while on Military Leave.
