Regions Week of Understanding

Regions annual Week of Understanding was inspired by the Day of Understanding launched by CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™. The organization is the largest CEO-driven coalition to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace, and Regions is a proud member.

We pledge to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace

Diversity and inclusion advancement is a priority for Regions as we work to “build the best team”, and our membership in the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion complements these long-term initiatives.

The CEO Action coalition members have pledged to three core commitments:

  • Continue to cultivate a workplace that supports open dialogue on diversity and inclusion
  • Implement and expand unconscious bias educational training modules
  • Share best practices – and lessons learned – with the collective business community

As a member of this coalition to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace, Regions joins more than 600 of the world’s leading companies and organizations that have agreed to implement the pledge in their workplaces and to support other companies in doing the same.

The coalition has also launched the CEO Action for Racial Equity Fellowship with a specific focus on advancing social justice through public policy. The fellowship is focused on dismantling systemic racism that has deeply impacted the 47 million Black Americans. Its mission is to identify, develop and promote scalable and sustainable public policies and corporate engagement strategies that will advance racial equity, address social injustice, and improve societal well-being.

“Diversity and inclusion are not only fundamental to our corporate strategy; Regions truly values and benefits from the diversity of its associates, customers and the communities we serve.”

— John Turner, Regions President and CEO

We host an annual Week of Understanding, offering opportunities for every associate to participate in leadership-led, constructive, and open dialogue about differences, examining ways to lift up each other and our communities, and promoting listening and understanding as important steps toward positive change in our diversity journey.

  • The 2020 Week of Understanding was designed for each person to engage in their own journey to a greater understanding around racial differences. This was a dedicated time for all regions associates to participate in a leader-led conversation about creating a more inclusive culture.
  • The 2021 Week of Understanding was designed to bring those on the outside in – by speaking up and for and coming alongside those who are members of marginalized groups. the focus for this year was ‘Allyship and Action’.
  • The 2022 Week of Understanding focused on microaggressions, unconscious bias, and increasing awareness about how words and actions impact others.
  • The 2023 Week of Understanding focused on identity with the theme “I AM. WE ARE.” Together, associates explored how each of our unique identities makes Regions a stronger company.
