Parental Leave

Effective January 1, 2019, Regions introduced improved parental leave benefits. This expanded maternity and bonding leave plan reflects our commitment to families and the importance of work life balance. The improved Parental Leave Policy will help reduce turnover, increase engagement and make us more competitive in the markets we serve.

Maternity Leave and Bonding Leave are offered by Regions to associates who are becoming parents through birth or adoption and need time to bond with their new child and/or recover from childbirth. Subject to the eligibility requirements, associates may use Maternity Leave and/or Bonding Leave to take paid time away from work for the birth or the adoption of a child under 18 years old.

Parental Leave Benefits and Details

  • Birth mothers receive 12 weeks of leave with full pay.
  • Birth fathers and adoptive parents receive 6 weeks of leave with full pay.
  • Associates are not required to use 10 days of sick leave as part of parental paid time off.
  • Associates hired in a benefits-eligible position before January 1, 2019, are immediately eligible for parental leave benefits. Associates hired after January 1, 2019, are eligible for parental leave benefits after 12 months in a benefits-eligible position.
  • The policy is effective for parents of a child with a birth or adoption date of January 1, 2019, or later.
