Deposit or transfer funds by the deadline[1]
If one business day's transactions overdraw your account’s available balance by more than $5, you’ll have until 8 p.m. Central Time the next business day to add funds to the account.
Deposit or transfer the right amount
As long as your checking account's available balance is positive or isn't overdrawn by more than $5 after nightly processing that next business day, we won't charge you an overdraft fee.
Best options to cover the overdraft
To help ensure that funds will be available to cover your overdraft by the 8:00 PM Central Time deadline, consider the following options:
- Deposit cash at a Regions branch during business hours. Find a branch location.
- Deposit cash at an ATM by 8:00 p.m. Central Time. Find an ATM.
- Use Regions Online Banking to transfer funds from another Regions account. See how to transfer funds from another Regions account.

To help ensure that funds will be available to cover your overdraft, consider the following options, as long as sufficient deposits or transfers are made before the 8 p.m. Central Time deadline.
- Deposit cash at a Regions branch or Regions ATM
- Use Regions Online Banking to transfer funds from another Regions account
Be sure to check branch and drive-thru hours of operation to ensure deposits are made by closing time.
Any deposit or credit to the account is eligible to increase the available balance, but not all deposits are guaranteed to qualify a customer for Overdraft Grace. For example, a check deposit may be subject to a funds availability hold.[1]

Check your available account balance or any Overdraft Grace notification you have have received to see the amount of your account’s overdraft.
If your account is in an Overdraft Grace period, you should keep tabs on your available account balance and consider outstanding automatic or new transactions that could be presented for payment. These transactions could affect whether your deposit or transfer is enough for the waiver of overdraft fees.

The Overdraft alert message will remain on your Online Banking account overview throughout the day that your account is in Overdraft Grace, even if deposits and transfers were made and the available balance is positive. This is to remind you that the account must have a positive available balance, or be overdrawn by no more than $5 after nightly processing to avoid the overdraft fee.

When a transaction, withdrawal or other item posts to your account and you don’t have enough money in your account to pay the item, the bank may either:
- Pay the item into overdraft[2], depending on whether you've chosen one of Regions overdraft services.
- Review the item for NSF ("non-sufficient funds") and choose to either pay it into overdraft or return it unpaid. Please note that making an Overdraft Grace deposit or transfer will not prevent an NSF Review item from being returned unpaid.

Deposits from money transfer services (like Zelle®, Cash App, Venmo, etc.) are eligible to cover an overdraft. However, it’s important to be aware that deposits made using money transfer services may sometimes be delayed (e.g., due to holds or funds availability policies, transfer service processing times, etc.). Deposits must be reflected in your account’s available balance by 8:00 p.m. Central time on the next business day after an overdraft in order to qualify for Regions Overdraft Grace.
