Winning Essay by Joel O., Saint Ambrose University

Michael Jordan is a very positive influence on a large number of people throughout the United States. He mainly influences and motivates athletes that want to strive and be the best that they can be. I am one those athletes that Michael Jordan has inspired to be great. I’ve been an athlete for my entire life. I have played football, basketball, and baseball since I could walk. Michael Jordan has been a role model of mine ever since I heard of him. Everything he does is an inspiration to many people all over the world.

Michael Jordan didn’t make his high school basketball team. His coach thought he wasn’t skilled enough at that point to play on his team. Michael took this as motivation and got better every day. He put work in in the gym, he started lifting weights, and he did everything else in his power to make himself the best man, athlete, and basketball player that he possibly could. His work ended up paying off as he went on to play basketball for the University of North Carolina.

The fact that he got cut from his high school team and still managed to play Division 1 basketball for a big university is enough to inspire ANYONE. That’s a lesson that tells anyone that anything is possible if you just go out and do it. If you want to get better at something, then you have to want to put in the work. That’s the main lesson that Michael Jordan has taught me.

I consider MJ to be a role model of mine because he is absolutely one of the main reasons I will be playing college football next year. I took his talk as motivation, and put in a ton of work to become a great athlete. I’ve been a three-sport athlete all my life and now I am continuing my athletic career into college. That’s been a dream of mine ever since I began playing sports.

Michael Jordan wasn’t just an amazing athlete. Now, he is among the wealthiest people in the world and he does great things with his money. Michael Jordan donates huge amounts of money to charity quite frequently. He is just overall a great person to look up to for anyone not just athletes. One day I hope to be half the athlete and half the man the Michael Jordan was and will continue to be until he dies.
