Your new Regions Visa Credit Card with chip technology can now be used four convenient ways:
1. At chip-enabled merchants.
As more merchants become chip-enabled, you will notice a slightly different experience when you use your card.
Here's how to use your card at checkout with a chip-enabled terminal:
Insert the chip end of your card into the terminal at checkout. Be sure to place your card in with the chip facing up.
Keep your card in the terminal and follow the prompts on screen. Leave the card in the terminal until the transaction has completed processing.
Remove your card from the terminal and take your receipt.
2. At merchants that aren’t yet chip-enabled.
You can still swipe your card to pay just like you have in the past.
3. At an ATM.
With a PIN, you can use your card to access your account at any ATM. At chip-enabled ATMs, simply leave your card in the machine until your transaction is complete.
4. For phone or online transactions.
Nothing changes – simply provide the same information you do today to complete your phone or online transaction.

Chip-enabled credit cards have an embedded chip that allows payment information to be securely transmitted at a chip-enabled terminal. This technology provides an enhanced level of security and greater worldwide acceptance. This type of card has been around for more than a decade and is safe to use; it is already standard practice in more than 130 countries worldwide and more U.S. merchants are accepting chip transactions every day.
The chip embedded in each card makes the card more difficult to duplicate, which provides greater security from fraudulent activity.
These are all just different terms for the same technology. The technology used in these credit cards is commonly known as being EMV-enabled (EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, which support the chip technology). These cards have become a global standard for processing credit card payments. Various credit card companies may refer to chip cards slightly differently.
You can pay using your chip card in three easy steps:
- Insert the chip end of your card into the terminal at checkout. Be sure to place your card in with the chip facing up.
- Keep your card in the terminal and follow the prompts on screen (you may need to sign for your purchase to complete the transaction).
- Remove your card from the terminal and take your receipt.
You can use your card at millions of places that accept Visa Credit Cards. Your card is equipped to perform both chip-based and magnetic strip-based transactions.
No, your chip card is a chip and signature card, so just sign your name like you currently do today to complete your transaction.
If you have been issued a PIN for your credit card, you can still use your card to access your account at any ATM. At chip-enabled ATMs, simply leave your card in the machine until your transaction is complete. (You will need to enter a PIN just like you do today.) If you don't know your PIN, call 1-800-253-2265 or log in to Regions Online Banking.
No, there is no fee to receive a chip card. As a Regions cardmember, we want to make sure we provide you with greater global acceptance and the strongest security available.
For Life, Premium, Prestige, Business, and Business Enhanced cards, all transactions are covered by Visa's $0 Liability Policy1. Regardless of whether you swipe to pay using the magnetic strip on the back of your card, make purchases at a chip-enabled terminal, or shop online, you are protected by the $0 Liability Policy. Commercial cards are not covered by Visa's $0 Liability Policy.
