The Professional Protector Plan® for Dentists provides professional liability, general liability and property insurance coverage all in one complete package.  Underwritten by CNA insurance and rated "A" for financial excellence by AM Best, the Professional Protector Plan is the largest provider of dentist's professional liability, insuring over 30,000 dentists nationwide.

Professional Liability
The Professional Protector Plan professional liability coverage is written on either a claims-made or an occurrence basis.  Limits on a claims-made form are available from $1,000,000 per claim/$3,000,000 annual aggregate to $5,000,000 per claim/$8,000,000 annual aggregate.  Limits on an occurrence form are available from $1,000,000 per claim / $1,000,000 annual aggregate to $5,000,000 per claim / $5,000,000 annual aggregate.

Standard Features:

  • Consent to Settle Clause - We will not settle a claim without the insured's consent.  The policy contains an arbitration clause in the event of a dispute or disagreement.  The intent is to protect the interests of all insured dentists from unreasonable requests that may be detrimental to the program.
  • Vicarious Liability - A must for any dentist in that they can be held liable for actions of employees, independent contractors, employed dentists and even specialists to whom they refer patients. Vicarious coverage is specifically included in the PPP policy language for all these exposures.
  • Employees and Independent Dental Hygienists - Employees (except dentists) are automatically covered on a shared-limits basis.  This includes dental hygienists when they work for the insured as an independent contractor.
  • Defense Costs - Defense costs are provided in addition to the limits of liability.  Therefore, defense or claims settlement expenses do not reduce any indemnity payment.
  • Privacy Liability - $150,000 maximum limits built in to policy to pay HIPPA/HITECH violations including patient notification.
  • Professional Corporation/Partnership - Coverage is provided on a shared-limits basis for the business entity.  An option for separate limits is available for a nominal premium charge.
  • Board/Committee Member - Protection for the professional services performed or not performed as a member of a formal accreditation, standards review, association or other professional board or committee relating to a professional society or hospital.
  • Contractual Liability Coverage - Protects you when you assume liability, as you often must, in hold harmless agreements when you do business with HMO's, PPO's, IPAs or similar organizations.
  • Owned Laboratory - Coverage is provided for liability assumed as a proprietor, administrative or executive officer for your professional liability arising out of laboratory facilities that the insured maintains for testing their own patients or testing necessary to the practice of their specialty.
  • Disciplinary and Licensure Coverage - This coverage pays the fees, costs and expenses to defend you against state regulatory action prompted by an otherwise covered injury or damage.  Defense costs are covered up to your professional liability limits.
  • Defendant's Reimbursement - Helps defray your expenses and lost time when you attend a trial involving a lawsuit against you.  Pays up to $25,000 in legal fees to defend you for sexual harassment, wrongful termination and race discrimination.
  • HIV Protection - With the exposure to blood born pathogens, a dental professional faces risks, which were never contemplated in years past.  The PPP has responded by extending income protection in case of HIV contraction.  This one time (optional) lump sum payment assists the dentist or employee in transitioning to other areas of dentistry if so desired.
  • First Aid Coverage - This coverage pays for medical expenses when someone is accidentally hurt during treatment, regardless of fault.
  • Extended Reporting Period Coverage - The PPP policy affords free ERP or "tail" coverage, if you have been continuously insured by us for the preceding 5 years and you are at least age 55.

Professional Liability Premium Credits Available:

  • Part-time credit
  • New Dentist Discount (for the first four years in practice!)
  • Risk Management Credit
  • Disability/Leave of Absence Credit
  • "Package" Discount - discount for professional liability, general liability and property when all are written under one policy with the PPP

General Liability
The benefit of having your professional liability and general liability insured by the same company is the elimination of potentially dangerous coverage gaps and unnecessary (and expensive) coverage overlaps.  Rather than having two companies fight over whether a claim was professional liability or general liability, wasting valuable time and money in the claim process, the PPP has the same carrier for both exposures and can get right down to the business of handling the claim.

Standard Features:

  • Water and Fire Legal Liability Coverage
  • Personal Injury Coverage
  • Advertising Injury Coverage
  • Non-Owned or Hired Automobile Liability
  • Medical Payments Coverage
  • Medical Waste Defense Coverage
  • And Many More…
