Emma G. Baxter

Associate Consultant

Emma serves on Highland’s client service team, supporting clients in nonprofit healthcare, retirement plans, operating portfolios, and foundations and endowments. Prior to joining Highland in 2024, Emma worked at Stone X Wealth Management as a Client Services Associate, where she supported a team of advisors and built relationships with clients.

Emma earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Birmingham Southern College, concentrating in finance and minoring in psychology.

Emma serves on Highland’s client service team, supporting clients in nonprofit healthcare, retirement plans, operating portfolios, and foundations and endowments. Prior to joining Highland in 2024, Emma worked at Stone X Wealth Management as a Client Services Associate, where she supported a team of advisors and built relationships with clients.

Jeremy M. Beck

Client Operations & Performance Analyst

Jeremy has more than 25 years of experience in the wealth management industry. At Highland Associates, Jeremy’s role focuses on delivering actionable insights through quantitative analytics and performance strategies.

Prior to joining Highland in 2025, Jeremy served as an analyst at Concourse Financial Group and Sterne Agee. Jeremy’s introduction into the wealth management industry began with Regions Investments where he served as the trading manager.

Jeremy earned his associate degree from Jefferson State Community College and later completed Harvard Business School’s Executive Education program, earning a CORe credential.

Jeremy has more than 25 years of experience in the wealth management industry. At Highland Associates, Jeremy’s role focuses on delivering actionable insights through quantitative analytics and performance strategies.

Prior to joining Highland in 2025, Jeremy served as an analyst at Concourse Financial Group and Sterne Agee. Jeremy’s introduction into the wealth management industry began with Regions Investments where he served as the trading manager.

Ben earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from The University of Georgia and his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Samford University.

Paige Daniel

President

Paige is a voting member of Highland’s Investment Working Group, which is responsible for directing asset allocation and research efforts of the firm, and a member of the Portfolio Working Group providing oversight to discretionary clients. She previously served as the Head of Consulting, serving the full range of Highland’s client categories.

Prior to joining Highland in 2006, Paige was the director of alternative strategies with AmSouth Bank’s Wealth Management Group and worked as an advisor in the Private Client Group at CIBC Oppenheimer.

Paige has over 30 years of investment experience and is a member, board member, and former Vice President of Finance for Rotary Club International, downtown Birmingham chapter. She also serves on the board and investment committee for The Women’s Foundation and is an appointed member of the City of Mountain Brook Finance Committee.

Paige earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University.

Austin Eng

Associate Consultant

Austin serves nonprofit hospital systems and charitable organizations. His role involves enhancing clients’ investment strategies through performance insights, monitoring compliance with investment policies, and supporting key day-to-day operational needs.

Austin began his career in performance measurement at Bank of America Merrill. He joined Highland in 2021 as a senior performance analyst and later worked as a client success manager for Confluence Technologies before returning to Highland in 2025.

David is responsible for assisting with client portfolios, including daily management, report preparation, facilitating the movement of funds, portfolio modeling and liaising with custodians.

Prior to joining Highland in 2025, he worked for Mauldin Economics as a senior research analyst and SA Stone Wealth Management as an Investment Analyst, accumulating over ten years in the finance sector.

David earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While at UAB, he served as Chief Investment Officer of the Green and Gold Fund.

David is responsible for assisting with client portfolios, including daily management, report preparation, facilitating the movement of funds, portfolio modeling and liaising with custodians.

Abigail S. Maziarz

Associate Consultant

Abby serves on Highland’s client service team, where she supports the implementation of investment strategies for clients across nonprofit healthcare, retirement plans, operating portfolios, and foundations and endowments. Her responsibilities include assisting with portfolio modeling, client reporting, investment research, and coordinating deliverables across internal teams.

Abby joined Highland in 2025 after graduating summa cum laude from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a minor in International Business. During her studies, she completed study abroad programs in London and Barcelona, focusing on international finance and economics.

Abby serves on Highland’s client service team, where she supports the implementation of investment strategies for clients across nonprofit healthcare, retirement plans, operating portfolios, and foundations and endowments. J. Derek Peterson, CFA

Senior Consultant

Derek’s client responsibilities include serving faith-based organizations, foundations and endowments, nonprofit healthcare operating portfolios, and corporate and church retirement plans. He also leads the firm’s associate consultants and is a member of Highland’s Funds Working Group (oversight of our multi-manager platform for discretionary clients) as well as the Highland Investment Working Group, which is charged with oversight of the firm’s investment program.

Previously, he also served as the Director of Performance and Client Operations, functioning in a dual capacity with his consulting responsibilities. He joined the firm in 2012.

With more than 25 years of experience in the investment industry, Derek’s background spans operations, trading, and portfolio management. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Georgia.

Derek’s client responsibilities include serving faith-based organizations, foundations and endowments, nonprofit healthcare operating portfolios, and corporate and church retirement plans. Amanda H. Poe

Chief Compliance Officer

Mandy is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the processes by which the firm complies with applicable laws and regulations. She also serves as the firm’s Anti-Money Laundering Risk Coordinator and holds her FINRA Series 7, 63 and 24 licenses.

Prior to joining Highland Associates in 2016, she was the branch office administrator and supervisory officer at Stifel (formerly Sterne Agee & Leach, Inc.) and also served as a compliance officer for Sterne Agee & Leach, Inc. Mandy has three decades of compliance experience in the investment industry.

Mandy earned her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Alabama.

Eric’s consulting responsibilities include serving healthcare operating portfolios, retirement plans, endowments and foundations, and insurance. He is a voting member of the firm’s Investment Working Group, which directs asset allocation and research initiatives.

Prior to joining Highland Associates in 2018, Eric spent two decades as a Principal and Managing Director at Summit Strategies, where he advised endowments, foundations, pensions, long‑term investment pools, and hospital operating assets.

Eric is actively engaged in the community. He serves on the boards of the Missouri Foundation for Health, the Investment Committee of Community School, City Academy, and Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School. He is also a past board member and former Executive Committee member of the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in International Relations from Boston University and his Master of Business Administration in Finance and Strategy from Washington University in St. Louis.

Matthew W. Sampson, CFA

Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager.

Matt serves as Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager. In this role, he is responsible for shaping and executing Highland’s investment strategy across discretionary portfolios and funds. He also chairs the Investment Working Group.

In addition, Matt participates in the Portfolio Working Group, which provides oversight for all client portfolios, as well as chairing the Funds Working Group, which guides the firm’s Multi‑Manager Solutions programs.

Matt earned his Bachelor of Science from The University of Alabama and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Senior Consultant

Scott Sealock manages client service for foundations and endowments, nonprofit healthcare operating portfolios, retirement plans, and insurance portfolios. He is a voting member of the Investment Working Group and oversees the Portfolio Working Group, which is responsible for management and oversight of portfolios.

Scott joined Highland in 2008 following a career in public accounting with Sellers, Richardson, Watson, Haley & Dunn LLP, where he specialized in tax and private real estate. He is a member of the Alabama Society of Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Monday Morning Quarterback Club.

He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Accountancy degrees from Auburn University and is both a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified Public Accountant.

Scott Sealock manages client service for foundations and endowments, nonprofit healthcare operating portfolios, retirement plans, and insurance portfolios. Prior to joining Highland Associates in 2023, Santosh worked in the corporate treasury division at Regions Bank, where he collaborated with other teams such as asset liability management, investment portfolio, debt, and capital planning for various strategic initiatives. He recently served as the president of the CFA Society of Alabama chapter and currently serves as a board member to the society.

Santosh earned his Bachelor of Technology in Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and his Master of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Brady’s responsibilities include generating performance analysis, custom reporting and interacting with managers and custodians.

Prior to joining the firm in 2025, he interned at Waverly Advisors and Warren Averett where he gained knowledge in filing regulatory documents, processed client deliverables and assisted with tax preparation.

Brady earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. While at UAB, he served as an analyst for the Green and Gold Fund, the university’s student‑managed investment portfolio.
