What is a virtual card payment?

A virtual card payment is a secure electronic payment sent by our Bill pay service to participating billers using a unique, one-time use card number created specifically for a transaction, rather than a paper check or Automated Clearing House (ACH) funds transfer.

Here's how it works

When you schedule a payment with a biller in Bill pay, we determine whether the biller is enabled for virtual card payments. If the biller is enabled for these payments, a one-time use virtual card number is generated for the payment, and the payment is processed as a debit card payment from your account. These payments are usually processed and completed in one business day.

Bill pay transactions through our Bill pay service are not always sent as virtual card transactions even if a biller is enabled to receive them. Regions and its service providers determine the payment methods used to complete Bill pay transactions at their discretion.
